Poupouatua is a remote location in the rocky environs of the Ruahine Ranges. Some 740-metres above sea level, the site experiences extreme wind and alpine conditions. Despite its challenges, Poupouatua was also determined by FMS to be the ideal location to fill a gap in signal coverage in our client's network.  

The coverage gap was the starting point of this greenfield project. The brief to FMS was to deliver the complete solution:

• Finding the appropriate site
• Planning and design of the repeater station
• Site excavation
• Engineering of the communications tower
• Building services and civil works for construction of the station
• Battery and generator back up power systems
• Installation and programming of the control systems
• Commissioning of the station into the operating network.
• Ongoing operation and maintenance.

Not only has the completed station delivered the desired network coverage, FMS's solution has also provided the basis for expansion to meet future demand.
